Multiply each assignment score by its weight (as a decimal). Add those products together and divide by the total weight. Example: an 85% test worth 40% contributes 34 points. A 90% quiz worth 20% contributes 18. Total 52 ÷ 0.60 = 86.7% weighted grade.
A weighted grade multiplies each assignment score by its weight and divides by the total weight. For example, if a midterm worth 30% scored 78% and a final worth 40% scored 85%, the weighted average of those two is (0.30 x 78 + 0.40 x 85) / (0.30 + 0.40) = (23.4 + 34.0) / 0.70 = 82%.
Use the Final Exam Needed tab. Enter your current grade, the grade you want to finish with, and the percentage weight of the final exam. The calculator tells you exactly what score you need. If the result is above 100%, the desired grade is not achievable through the final alone.
