Calculate room areas and total square footage. Supports multiple shapes and unit conversion.
For a rectangular room, multiply length by width. A 12 ft × 15 ft room = 180 sq ft. For L-shaped rooms, split into two rectangles and add the areas. For triangles: (base × height) ÷ 2. For circles: π × radius². Add all rooms together for total square footage.
For a rectangle, multiply length by width. A 12 ft x 15 ft bedroom is 180 sq ft. For a triangle, multiply base by height then divide by 2. For a circle, multiply pi (3.14159) by the radius squared. For irregular rooms, break them into simpler shapes, calculate each, and add the results.
1 square meter = 10.764 square feet. A 1,000 sq ft apartment is about 92.9 m². The US and a few other countries use square feet; most of the world uses square meters. This calculator shows both.
Square footage is used for flooring estimates (tiles, hardwood, carpet), paint coverage calculations (1 gallon typically covers 350-400 sq ft), real estate listings, and material ordering. Add 10-15% to flooring estimates for cuts and waste.
