The Random Picker tool selects one or more items at random from any list you provide. Paste in names, options, tasks, or anything else, and get an instant, unbiased result. It is ideal for choosing raffle winners, assigning chores, picking a restaurant, selecting a random team member, or any situation where you need a fair, impartial choice.

How to Use the Random Picker

  1. Type or paste your list of items into the input box, one item per line.
  2. Choose how many items you want to pick (default is 1).

How the Game Works

The Random Picker shuffles your list using a fair random algorithm and selects the specified number of items from the top of the shuffled list. Each item in your list has an exactly equal chance of being chosen on every pick. If you enable the "remove after picking" option, selected items are excluded from future picks, which is useful for running through a full list in random order. The original list is preserved so you can reset and start again at any time.

The first four columns count combinations, where the order of the picked items does not matter. The last column counts ordered draws where the same item can come up twice. Drawing three from a list of 40 gives 9,880 possible sets, so any one set has a 0.0101% chance on a single draw. Drawing three names in a fixed order, with repeats allowed, is one chance in 64,000.

Fairness and Handling the Result

Each item carries the same probability and each pick is independent of the last. The switch that removes picked items changes the mathematics. With it on, the draw samples without replacement, so no item appears twice in one draw and the odds of what remains rise as the pool shrinks. With it off, an item can come up twice, which reads like a bug and is the expected behaviour of an independent draw.

The tool does not display a seed or keep a record of the draw, so a particular result cannot be reproduced later.
