A PDF author designs for A4 and a US customer prints it clipped because Letter is slightly wider and noticeably shorter. The ISO 216 System
The A series is the international standard for paper, defined in ISO 216. The entire series is built on a single mathematical trick: every sheet has the aspect ratio 1 : โ2 (approximately 1 : 1.4142). Pixels and DPI

Screen DPI in 2026 is closer to 100 to 160 DPI on most phones and laptops, but the legacy 72 DPI assumption lives on in design software and PDF standards.
